The object is made of sodium glass, blown directly into blocks of ice, ground, and polished. It is part of the “I Am Disappearing” series.
The “I Am Disappearing” project is inspired by a journey around the Mont Blanc massif and the sight of melting glaciers, which are a tangible sign of the dynamic climate changes leading to catastrophic ecological consequences.
The aim of the “I Am Disappearing” project is to draw attention to the increasingly pressing climate crisis. It is also meant to serve as a stimulus for reflection, a pretext for conversation, and an attempt to build social awareness.
During the execution of the “I Am Disappearing” project, ice blocks replaced the traditionally used wooden molds as forms for creating the objects.
Under the influence of the high temperature of the glass, the ice underwent an irreversible melting process, taking on a unique shape each time.
The thermal shock caused by the contact of hot molten glass with ice created cracks on the surface of the blown objects. These cracks, reheated in the furnace, fused back together, forming a decorative web-like texture on the walls of the objects.
This profoundly evocative process of creating the objects in the “I Am Disappearing” project serves as a symbolic representation of the dynamic climate changes and the irreversible losses they entail.
The result, a spatial record and documentation of the process, is a collection of unique and one-of-a-kind glass vases.
Each piece is signed with the artist's name.
